Mother to Mother has dozens of volunteers with a passion for helping new mothers find the joy in motherhood. Our volunteers assist in this capacity by providing telephone and group support, community education in the forms of prenatal class presentations and health fairs, and participate in various fundraising activities. Many of our volunteers experienced emotional difficulties during pregnancy and postpartum.
Volunteer Opportunities
Telephone opportunities:
Telephone support volunteers receive an extensive training prior to being assigned a mom. The training includes topics such as: dealing with current beliefs in regards to pregnancy, their baby, being a mother, returning to work, etc.; using communication and assertiveness skills to help with the progression of this new time; and dealing with emotions. Trainings are free and held once a year in the fall. Contact us at 314-644-7001 or use online contact form.
Fundraising opportunities:
Mother to Mother relies strictly on donations and grants for income. Therefore a number of volunteer opportunities exist and include:
Assist with annual solicitation letters for donations (prepare the letter, assembly, etc)
Assist with the annual Mother’s Day luncheon and silent auction or the annual Trivia Night and silent auction each Fall. Help is needed with soliciting goods & services, working the event, or assisting on a committee
Assist with other events such as gift-wrapping at Borders.
Community Outreach and Education opportunities:
Facilitate presentations on Mother to Mother and Post Partum Adjustment Disorder to area prenatal classes
Build our “Community Support” database by distributing information to physician offices, hospitals and other organizations
Help work events such as Parents as Teachers workshops and conferences to distribute information
Testimonial
"I was helped tremendously by Mother to Mother after the birth of my second son. Mother to Mother played a crucial role in my recovery from PPAD. I now volunteer as a member because I know what a huge difference we make in the life of the mother's we help. Having a support volunteer just a phone call away, can and perhaps already has saved many lives."
