There are significant tax advantages to making a gift of appreciated securities. For example, if you paid $200 for stock that is now worth $1,000, by donating it to a non-profit organization you can avoid capital gains tax on the $800 profit and deduct the full $1,000 contribution.

The process for making a donation of securities to Mother to Mother is simple:

Tell your broker or bank in writing what shares in your account are to be transferred to Mother to Mother.
